Plantoids/Humanoids: Purely cosmetic portraits, no gameplay effects.Necroids have access to a bunch of special death-themed civics and stuff. Lithoids/Necroids: These add species portraits that allow for unique mechanics Lithoids eat minerals instead of food, have high habitability, and grow slow.Ancient Relics: Adds an archaeology mechanic, where your scientists lead archeological digs to uncover artifacts with unique powers.Don't get this one until you've played enough you're starting to get bored of the same events, then pick it up ASAP, it's really a ton of stuff. Distant Stars: Just a shitload of events.Synthetic Dawn: Adds the ability to play as a robot empire, anything from Borg-style assimilators to "kill the meatbags" exterminators.Leviathans: Adds some giant creatures and constructions in space, that all have event chains involving them and rewards.Nemesis: This new one, adds epsionage and the ability to either become the great defender of the galaxy against the endgame crisis, or to become the crisis yourself.Federations: Expands upon existing federations between empires and the Galactic Community (space UN.) Also adds "Origins" to give you some choice as to where your empire came from beyond the default "all our countries unified into one government." Also adds a few megastructures.MegaCorp: Adds more Megastructures, Ecumenopoli (city-worlds like Coruscant), and the ability to play as a Megacorporation (what it sounds like.).Apocalypse: Adds Colossi (Death Stars), Titans (giga-capital ships), Marauders (space pirates, kind of like less powerful and more belligerent Fallen Empires), and some other stuff.

Utopia: Adds Megastructures (big mega-projects think Dyson spheres and ringworlds) and Ascension Paths (your empire/people can either become cyborgs and eventually robots, become super gene-modifier people with superhuman genetics, or become Force users Psykers powerful psionics.) Probably the one to get if you had to get only one.Expansion is different, space is different, planets are different, war is different, diplomacy is different. However, if you haven't played since 2016, you should definitely play vanilla even if you liked it then, just to be sure the game is basically an entirely different game from how it was on launch. The base game is close enough to any expansion-ed game that it's a good reference to decide if you want more. Honestly, they've done a fairly good job of making none of the expansions required. /r/GamePhysics - Clips of game physics shining and glitchingĭesign based on /r/FlatBlue created by /u/creesch./r/gaming4gamers - middle ground between purely-for-fun and more serious subreddits./r/GamingLeaksAndRumours - Leaks and Rumors.Posting unmarked spoilers will result in removal and warning, and posting spoilers with malicious intent will result in a ban.
